L'Opera A La Mode: Four Classic Works from the French Repertory
This course looks at the highly popular French school of "Grand" opera. These spectacular operas were favorites of the audiences who attended the Paris Opera House simply known as L'Opera. The operas are sung in the original language with English subtitles and a printed synopsis will be provided.
Week 1- Manon by Massenet- A Opera Nationale di Paris
Week 2- Faust by C. Gounod- A Royal Opera House
Week 3- Tales of Hoffman by J Offenbach
Week 4- Carmen by G. Bizet
Instructor: Giuseppe Albanese attended the University of Vermont and received his degree in history. In 1989, after five years of intensive study, he developed a dynamic education program entitled the Joy of Opera. Mr. Albanese is a recipient of the Lifelong Learning Society's Excellence in Teaching Award.
