VPK Students learning all about the Race Across America
Event Description:
Race Across America (RAAM)is one of the most respected and longest running ultra-endurance events in the world. RAAM is seen as a pinnacle of athletic achievement not only in cycling circles but the greater sporting community as well. For over 36 years RAAM has been challenging ultracyclists from around the globe to push their physical and mental limits to the farthest reaches. Starting in Oceanside, under one of the longest piers in California, RAAM spans over 3000 miles, climbs 175,000 feet, crosses 12 states and finishes at City Dock in Annapolis, Maryland, the east coast sailing mecca.
Opportunity Early Childhood Education and Family Center’s team, The Opportunists, will be a mixed team of three male and one female racers: Chris Huffman, Kathy Petrillo, Matt Shippee and Michel Chabot. They are out to set a new speed record for their category!
The Opportunists and the Rhod-A-Cross America (the RV accompanying our team) Facebook pages will feature hundreds of photographs, interviews and videos before, during and after the Race. The total views on last year’s Facebook page exceeded 30,000. With a mixed gender team this year, we’re hoping to generate more interest and additional donations.
