Dr. Thomas Christiansen, Interim Program Director, Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program 
Topic: Where is Traumatology in Today's Education 

Dr. Thomas Christiansen has been on faculty at South University, West Palm Beach, since 2008. While at the University, he has served as Clinical Coordinator, and has taught a variety of courses for the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program. He has been a clinical supervisor for over twenty years and is credentialed as an Approved Clinical Supervisor through the Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE) and the State of Florida. Dr. Christiansen has presented at several national conferences such as American Counseling Association, American Mental Health Counseling Association, Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. In 2019, he was appointed as Interim Program Director for the Clinical Mental Health Program (CMHC). Dr. Christiansen has been instrumental in the curriculum development of the program as well as obtaining CACREP accreditation for the West Palm Beach CMHC program.
As a practicing psychologist, he specializes in children and families, adult mental health, and psychological evaluation. Dr. Christiansen has maintained a part-time private practice since 2004. Prior to that time, he worked in community mental health directing several programs including adolescent residential treatment, school-based counseling, and adult out-patient programs. He has been awarded several grants aimed at improving services for the residents of Palm Beach County Florida. Combining his clinical work and teaching, Dr. Christiansen has contributed to the professional development and growth of future counselors in the mental health field.
