19th century pioneer lighthouse keepers Melville Spencer and Fred Whitehead took what may be the only photos of the Jupiter and Lake Worth areas prior to 1890. These rare images depict the lighthouse, Seminoles, pioneer residents, early homes and agriculture, and wilderness scenes that would be unrecognizable to many modern residents of the area. Learn about Spencer and his lesser known predecessor, Fred Whitehead, and see many examples of their work.
