SUMMARY:Exploring Marine Debris Onboard R/V ANGARI
DESCRIPTION:Come aboard our 65-foot research vessel ANGARI to explore marine debris and participate in our citizen science study Lagoon Drift. Since 2017\, ANGARI Foundation and local partners have been using a series of coordinated releases of small eco-friendly wooden drift cards to study the motion of water and pollutants in waterways in and around the Lake Worth Lagoon in Palm Beach County. Community members participate in creating\, decorating\, deploying\, locating and reporting found drift cards. This helps us get a better understanding of how marine debris is transported and accumulates in our area. During the semi-annual experiments\, the entire community gets involved in conversations about human impacts on the environment\, including plastic pollution and other types of marine debris\, and the effects of marine debris on marine life and our ocean.\n\n \n\nOn Thursday\, October 9th\, join us anytime between 3:30pm and 6:30pm ET to meet the team and become a scientist for the day! At the dock\, you'll tour our research vessel\, known for its support of various research topics\, including sharks\, sea turtles\, coral reefs\, Sargassum and more. Following the tour\, you'll decorate drift cards\, examine marine debris and learn about our local waterways. Activities are appropriate for all ages.
