Cleveland Clinic Florida Honors Women of Excellence at Sapphire Luncheon
 
WESTON, Fla. – October 3, 2017 – Cleveland Clinic Florida recognized five South Florida “Women of Excellence” at the inaugural Sapphire Luncheon hosted Sept. 22, 2017, at the Lauderdale Yacht Club in Fort Lauderdale. Hosted by the Women’s Professional Staff Association (WPSA) at Cleveland Clinic Florida, the event honored women in the community who are innovative leaders achieving professional and personal excellence.
 
The Sapphire honorees are:
  • Business - Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, President and CEO of Celebrity Cruises a multi-billion-dollar vacation brand
  • Entrepreneur - Ramola Ramesh Motwani, Chairwoman and CEO of Merrimac Ventures, a real estate management, investment and development company with interests around the U.S. and India
  • Community Service - Linda B. Carter, President/CEO of the Community Foundation of Broward, nationally ranked in the top 100 community foundations
  • Healthcare - Kathleen Cannon, CEO/President of United Way of Broward County, working to heighten the successful confluence of nonprofits, community leaders, volunteers and private businesses to help those who need it most in the community
  • Education - Madeline M. Pumariega, Chancellor of 28 colleges that make up the Florida College System, which serve more than 800,000 students
 
“Our goal with the Sapphire Award is to recognize women whose stories of success and perseverance are inspirational and provide others with a path forward,” said Wael Barsoum, MD, President of Cleveland Clinic Florida and member of the event committee. “Our honorees demonstrate the same spirit of excellence embodied in the Cleveland Clinic values of quality, innovation, teamwork, service, integrity, and compassion.”
 
Cleveland Clinic Florida’s Women’s Professional Staff Association, which hosted the event, represents women in medicine and promotes personal and professional growth, and happiness at work. The WPSA Host Committee included Diana Galindo, MD; Claudia Mason, MD; Dalia McCoy, MD; Mary Rensel, MD; Vani Sabesan, MD; and Farah Tejpar, MD.
 
Event committee members included David Armstrong, President of Broward College; Wael Barsoum, MD, President of Cleveland Clinic Florida; Matthew Caldwell, President & CEO of the Florida Panthers; Raquel Case, General Manager at Rick Case Automotive Group; George LeMieux, Shareholder and Chairman of the Board of Directors at Gunster; and Paula Levenson, Manager of Communications and Corporate Affairs at AutoNation.
