Levitetz Family Foundation Gifts $2 Million to Support Orthopaedic Surgery Department at Cleveland Clinic Florida

WESTON, Fla. – August 15, 2017 – The Levitetz Family Foundation and Jeff Levitetz, philanthropist and longtime supporter of Cleveland Clinic Florida, has made a $2 million gift for Cleveland Clinic Florida’s nationally ranked Orthopaedic Surgery Department. His gift is being recognized with the naming of The Levitetz Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, the highest ranked orthopedics program in Florida by U.S. News & World Report, in appreciation of his significant contribution to orthopaedic research and development, caregiver training and patient care initiatives.

As founder and president of The Levitetz Family Foundation, Levitetz makes charitable gifts to organizations that support children, families, veterans and scientific research, among other areas. In addition to innovations in orthopaedic surgery, his contributions to Cleveland Clinic Florida have also supported the Maroone Cancer Center.
 
“I’m excited and honored that our name will be on the Orthopaedic Department wall here at Cleveland Clinic Florida,” said Mr. Levitetz at a recent event featuring an unveiling of the new department signage. “We will continue to be a great custodian for the clinic.”
 
Levitetz graduated from The University of Alabama in 1980. He is the founder and chairman of Purity Wholesale Grocers, a distributor of grocery products and general merchandise that’s listed among one of the nation’s top private companies. Levitetz is also a celebrated athlete who led several U.S. wrestling teams, including the 2004 U.S. Olympic Greco-Roman team that competed in Athens, Greece, and served on the board of directors of USA Wrestling. He is passionate about developing youth and has been involved in Florida youth wrestling clubs, established a scholarship fund to help young athletes attend summer wrestling camps, and co-founded the online training program, Handshake University, to help young people build self-confidence and develop leadership skills.
